on scenic Vineyard Canyon Road, the Ranch sits high atop Vineyard
Mountain. This Ranch Retreat is the epitome of pristine beauty – with

point on the north end of Vineyard Canyon, at more than 2,750
ft., the Ranch encompasses Vineyard Mountain and the magnificent
surrounding hilltops, then descends down towards the Cholame
Valley to the northwest and Vineyard Canyon to the south. An
unrivaled combination of rustic landscapes with pastoral scenery
on thousands of acres make Vineyard Mountain Ranch the perfect
retreat, with the feeling of seclusion, yet it is only minutes
from town.
This awe-inspiring place is the essence
of central California. Resplendent with breathtaking views, the mostly
rolling hills and lush meadows are covered with wild oats & native
grasses and literally thousands of mature oak & pine trees throughout
the Ranch, embodying the open rangeland that defines California,
at its best. Situated in the Parkfield area of southern Monterey
County, this property is all about Privacy and the Views, both the
Antelope grade to the east and the Three Sisters and the coastal
range to the west, can be seen from this high ground. On the Ranch,

History
Culturally and historically,
this Ranch has major significance as a cattle Ranch dating back generations,
with now-perfected original homestead patents, the earliest of which
dates back to 1886. As the pivotal connection between the Cholame
Valley and San Miguel, Vineyard Canyon Road (at its peak here on
Vineyard Mountain) was established in 1887 with $200 in gold coin
and considered to be the biggest advancement in communication with
the world outside of Parkfield. The historic Wayside Cross stands
guard on a knoll, Invocation Point, overlooking the Ranch. On a
tiny piece of land owned by a local church, it was dedicated in
1926 in memory of Bishop Nichols, 2nd bishop of California. This
huge Celtic cross celebrates the majesty of these “sunlit
hills” & stands on a spot oldtimers refer to as ‘the
old stagecoach stop at the top of Vineyard Mountain’ on the
old San Miguel – Parkfield Road.
Places unique to the Ranch such as, Iron
Springs, Highway to Heaven and the secluded Hidden Valley, just
to name a few, epitomize the rustic nature of this magnificent
property, and are in keeping with the rugged character & historic
charm of the region . . .
Wildlife
The Ranch is home to many wild animal species such as: black-tailed
deer, wild turkey, wild boar, tule elk, quail, dove, mountain lion,
bobcat, coyote, badger, gopher snake, rattlesnake, brown squirrel,
gray fox, jack rabbit, cottontail rabbit, birds include: red-headed
woodpecker, bluebird, blue jay, magpie, goldfinch, hummingbird,
seasonal ducks and geese in the ponds, red-tailed hawk, falcon,
turkey buzzard, golden eagle, and even bald eagles have been sighted.
Water
As a result of the high ground, the Ranch is the primary tributary
to both Vineyard Canyon Creek and Cholame Creek. There are several
fresh water springs and seasonal ponds on the property with development
potential to be year round.
Climate
The climate is generally milder than the lower elevation city of Paso Robles,
with daytime temperatures between 40° to 60° in winter and 75° to
95° in summer. Occasional heat waves may take the daytime temperature even
higher, but the nights are invariably cool, with a 40-50° swing from daytime
highs to nighttime lows not uncommon.

Location:
Situated mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Ranch
enjoys easy access from both metropolitan areas. It is uniquely
situated with easy access via car from the 5 freeway (via Hwy
46 or Hwy 41) and from the 101 freeway (via San Miguel) and Pacific
Coast Highway 1 (via Hwy 46). Paso Robles is home to both a private
airfield and a local Amtrak station.
Surrounding Area
San Miguel is a growing “wide spot in the road” with
a post office & fire station, gas station, bank, school, local
café, bar and deli/market; it is best known as home to the
historic California Mission San Miguel de Arcángel. “Town” is
Paso Robles (www.pasorobleschamber.com), a short jaunt from the
ranch, and is home to all of the amenities yet still maintains
a nostalgic, small-town feel. The historic downtown main street
area & park is home to weekend events that range from wine
festivals to “kustom kar” shows to the Pioneer Day
parade and our weekly farmer’s market. The weekend recreation
crowd loves the two nearby lakes, Lake Nacimiento and Lake San
Antonio, host to the annual WildFlower triathalon. At the center
of California’s central coast wine country are over 180 local
wineries that have harnessed the long growing season of warm days
and cool evenings into the flavors that have made this a destination
for discerning palates and discriminating tastes.
Elevation
Rising from 2,100 feet in elevation to more than 2,750’ at
the highest hilltop, the Ranch is not subject to the daily fog
and morning overcast skies common to Paso Robles, oftentimes
sitting just above the fog bank creeping up Vineyard Canyon.
Like islands in the ocean, the distant southerly hilltops breach
the fog – eerily disguising the magnificent westerly view.
Infrastructure
Vineyard Canyon Road is a paved, fully-maintained county road
that leads you to the top of Vineyard Mountain and the entrance
to Vineyard Mountain Ranch. There are miles of regularly-graded
roads that connect all areas of the property, through varied
scenic terrain that provides the ultimate experience in horseback
riding, hiking, hunting or just exploring. The property is
perimeter-fenced and cross fenced.
